Georgetown Police Department

Guardians of Georgetown Delaware

School Resource Officer

The Georgetown Police Department established a School Resource Officer program in 2015. The School Resource Officer (SRO) program is a partnership between the Town of Georgetown and the Indian River School District (IRSD) to provide a full-time police officer with the responsibility of providing service to all IRSD schools within the town limits of Georgetown.

The SRO's responsibilities include the investigation of all criminal incidents on school property and providing preventative measures to deter criminal behaviors. Additionally, the SRO serves as an educator and mentor within the schools. The SRO presents a myriad of topics to staff and students: cyber safety, drug and alcohol dangers, stranger danger, violent intruder survival, and more. The SRO established the Georgetown Junior Police Academy in 2016. The Georgetown Junior Police Academy was created to continue harboring positive relationships with youth during the summer months. Since its inception, the GJPA has graduated 100 cadets from the program.
